(a collation is a light repast)

not-too-sweet white cake and vanilla ice milk
fresh vanilla cake and homemade unflavored frozen yogurt
nutmeg pastry
court bouillon (bay leaves, fish stock, vegetables, and wine)
strawberry shortcake
watercress sandwiches
appetizers on crackers:
  almond & anchovy paste
  chicken liver mince with mayonnaise
  pistachios on liverwurst
  sardine & caviar paste
  pickled herring
  deviled ham & chopped onions
pimento cheese mixed with a dash of horseradish
"Seven Seas" cucumber circle, chutney, cream cheese with curry & chives
["Seven Seas" - The cracker goes on the bottom, the cucumber slice next, then the chutney, then the chives-flavored cream cheese, and finally a light sprinkle of curry powder.  Don't get creative and add or subtract ingredients or your "Seven Seas" will be shipwrecked!]
appetizer on black bread:
peanut butter & bacon toasted on sourdough pumpernickel
dip for ruffled potato chips:
chilled cream of shrimp soup blended with chopped green bell pepper
appetizers for toothpicks:
Spanish olive on Stilton cheese squares moistened with port wine
  mini-cocktail weiners
  Vienna sausages
other appetizers:
  deviled eggs
cheese fondue with French bread cubes
